Specific Goals for Seniors in Palliative Care

- Support emotional needs of individual and their families
- Enhance quality of life

- Support spiritual and cognitive needs
Do you remember when Elvis rocked and Doris Day ruled the air waves? Many seniors lived through those years and with gentle encouragement will share the songs and memories of a treasured past.
Our skilled therapists guide seniors in residences in group singing, instrument playing and discussions to stimulate cognitive skills and encourage reminiscence. Mobility is also enhanced through movement to music.
Research indicates that music therapy boosts social and emotional skills and improves responses from those in late stages of dementia. The activities lift mood and reduce agitated behaviour. Music therapy has been observed to improve pain control, physical comfort, and promote relaxation.
Flexible Programs
WNMTS implements programs based on monthly themes with visual supports and incorporates several Montessori techniques for individuals with Alzheimer's and Dementia. Examples of these techniques includes the use of repetition, failure-free tasks, opportunities for building a sense of accomplishment and self-expression, supporting self-worth, and encouraging a sense of belonging to the group.
We provide individual and group sessions for seniors who are retired, living in care, experiencing Alzheimer or related dementias, Parkinson's disease, stroke or those in palliative care.
